About Gurjyote Singh Sethi

Master Chef GJ

Growing up in India, Gurjyote (GJ) was fascinated by his father’s entrepreneurial spirit and his grandmother’s cooking. Gurjyote always dreamed of combining that entrepreneurial spirit with great food from around the world. With vibrant Indian spices and flavours running through his veins, by grade 9, he was determined to one day be a certified chef. His culinary journey started in 1999. Upon graduation from the Institute of Hotel Management, in New Delhi, GJ worked as a kitchen trainee at the Hyatt Regency and eventually worked his way up the ladder to become the Executive Chef for The Taj Hotel. He often reminisces about the early days, when he was a kitchen assistant and was tasked to peel 50 pounds of onions in a single shift. He praises his master chefs for showing him the resolve needed to work in the kitchen at all levels. With amazing tenacity and drive; he worked his way up the culinary ladder. Over the past 20 years, he has been nurtured by some of the world’s best chefs, at some of the top hospitality brands, including Marriott, Crowne Plaza, Intercontinental, and Aman Resorts. He honed his entrepreneurial spirit when he opened a food joint in New Delhi´s, Greater Kailash 1 Market. In India, he cooked for Honorable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narinder Modi, many Bollywood stars, directors and musicians, as well as many foriegn Ambassadors.

His chef journey forged ahead when he was posed with the opportunity to work for an upscale restaurant in Scotland. From there, he continued to travel the world, exploring with his taste buds, absorbing cooking techniques and building his spice box. He has now become accomplished at both traditional Indian cooking as well as modern world cuisine. Six years ago, he was welcomed by the warm-hearted people of Canada, who recognized his talents and skills. In Vancouver, he worked with the Fairmont Hotel and completed his requirements for Red Seal Chef certification. GJ anxiously opened his first catering company, GJs’ Kitchen, in Surrey BC. He quickly learned that the Canadian food scene is quite different from that in previous countries. GJ quickly re-established himself and had his eyes set on the Vancouver area market. Today, GJ is recognized as a passionate five star chef with great interpersonal and communications skills. He finds that in giving back to the new generation of chefs is rewarding and fun. He is featured on many television programs and is a star member of many renowned cooking classes. In addition, he recognized that Vancouver did not adequately fill the need for the on-demand lunch business. Most Indian cuisines focus on “Butter Chicken, Paneer and Naan” – But in India, the working person would have lighter lunch options called “Tiffins”. GJ’s Entrepreneurial spirit was re-ignited. Tiffin2Go is his GJ’s inspiration on how Indian fast food should be offered. If you live in the metro Vancouver area check out tiffin2go.com

Over the past few years, GJ has had the opportunity to cook for Defence Minister Jason Kenny, Multicultural Minister Tim Uppal, and the Minister for Children and Women’s Development. He is known in the Indian food scene as Bollywoods’ celebrity chef in Vancouver.

This place is AMAZING the best indian take-out in Vancouver! I ordered from Uber Eats, and loved their creative Kathi rolls. We now tried the Nizam and Butter Chicken both were perfectly spiced! We can't wait to order again!

My friend recommended this place. During Covid-19 I was looking for something more upscale through Skip the Dishes. Discovered Tiffin2Go and ordered the Delhi Chicken sandwich and my boyfriend tried the Lamb Kathi. He was extremely happy, as was I. I would highly recommended both! Definitely will order again and tell everyone about this gem of a takeout.
